MAP Iran Earthquake Relief Project Update

We are proud to report that, thanks to your generosity, the second phase of MAP’s Iran Earthquake Relief Project has been completed. MAP, with the help of our partner NGO Nikgaman Jamshid in Iran, has assembled two pre-fabricated, modularized schools in two villages (Ikadeh and Bizbin) near Ahar, Azerbaijan. The schools are up and running, thanks to your contributions and support.

Additionally, as reported, one other modularized structure was set up which is being used for continued trauma counseling and as a food distribution site.

We began our relief efforts in the quake-hit region with water and food distribution; and continued our work by purchasing and distributing 300 winter jackets and shoes to the children in the area.
We then focused on the two villages listed above and set-up schools and trauma counseling.
Additionally, in these two villages, we:

  • purchased and assembled eight tents for families;
  • provided the children in three families with school supplies and their other needs;
  • provided funds for the health care cost of a handicapped child; and
  • funded a new home for a family who had lost their home.

The next phase of our relief project is to build a shelter for children in this region.

MAP’s special Earthquake Relief Permit from the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control
(OFAC license # IA-2012-296484-1) is valid until July 2013 and is an
addition to our existing OFAC license # IA-17718.
