We are deeply saddened by the news of the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that hit Kermanshah Province, western Iran, on November 12. There is much devastation in the regions of Kermanshah, Ilam and Kurdistan. The earthquake’s epicenter was in Sar-Pol Zahab, Kermanshah and it damaged the main hospital where victims are being treated.

So far over 500 people have been killed and more than 7000 injured. Over 50% of schools in the area have been destroyed and authorities estimate in excess of 70,000 people need emergency relief and shelter.

Unfortunately, the damage was widespread affecting over 500 villages since most of the homes in the Kurdish mountains are made from mud bricks and are vulnerable to earthquake damage. Winter’s impending harsh weather adds a sense of urgency to the relief efforts.

Our local team has mobilized and we need your support in helping the people of this area.
