Sierra Leone

kidson-bridge

Sierra Leone is one of the world’s poorest countries with nearly 75% of people earning less than two dollars a day. According to the United Nations, Sierra Leone has the world’s highest mortality rate of children under the age of five due to health issues.
Today, Sierra Leone is recovering from a long and brutal civil war which ended in 2002 and resulted in over 50,000 deaths and the displacement of more than 2 million people. Many children are still dealing with the trauma of being forced to fight in this brutal war and striving to get back into a normal childhood and life.

Educational Support

Schools in Sierra Leone are in great need. They are underfunded and resourced, with very poor and unsafe building structures. Schools are not free and most families cannot afford to send their children to school due to the high attendance fees.
MAP is supporting hundreds of children in Sierra Leone to receive education by providing them with scholarships, funding their tuition fees. In addition, MAP is identifying and providing the resources needed per school.  Example of projects include; fixing the roof and providing electrical generator for a school.
