According to the United Nations, Iran is ranked the world’s 27th poorest nation with forty percent (40%) of the population living in poverty. UNICEF estimates over 1.5 million Iranian children live in orphanages. In actuality, this number is much higher, but due to lack of international presence in Iran we do not have a verifiable count.
Members of our board and volunteers have personally visited various orphanages in Iran such as Azadi, Shahid Shojaie and Shahid Torkamani; and have adopted children from Iran. We have personally seen the sheer number of children in need who live in devastating conditions in these orphanages. Many orphanages have buildings in extreme disrepair without proper piping, clean or functioning bathrooms, proper sanitation and the normal everyday necessities such as beds and bedding.
On November 2010, MAP obtained permission from the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control to extend work into Iran. Currently we are working on projects at Shahid Shojaie and Farkhondeh.

Farkhondeh

Farkhondeh is a 24-hour care center for mental and motor disabled children. MAP provides rehabilitation care for these children. By assisting in their physical and emotional development, MAP will help them lead a more independent, positive and enjoyable life.

Shahid Shojaie

Shahid Shojaie is an all-girls orphanage which is “home” to 21 girls on a full time basis. MAP will reconstruct and repair the facility’s critically damaged roof. In addition MAP will build and renovate the bathroom and bathing facilities for these girls.
